Transitioning from university to the FinTech industry can feel like stepping into a whole new world. At Beam, Beam Basecamp was created to bridge that gap, giving interns a front-row seat to how a modern financial technology company scales and operates.

Designed as a hands-on learning environment, Basecamp gives early talent the opportunity to experience the startup ecosystem firsthand, collaborate across disciplines, and grow within an open, supportive, and fast-moving culture.

Here's a glimpse into our individual Basecamp journeys, the real-world challenges we tackled, the lessons we learned along the way, and what it truly means to grow with Beam.

Accounting Intern: From Learning to Building Solutions

From Textbooks to Real Impact

My primary goal at Beam Basecamp was to create meaningful impact by streamlining manual Finance & Accounting processes. During the internship, I developed an automated workflow that eliminated repetitive tasks and significantly reduced processing time for the team. Working with live financial data rather than textbook examples came with a steep learning curve, but it was exactly what made the experience so rewarding. It taught me how to think beyond technical solutions and design processes that create real value for the people who use them.

Professional Growth in a High-Trust Environment

Beyond the projects themselves, what made Beam stand out was its high-trust, fast-paced culture. From day one, I was trusted with meaningful responsibilities, encouraged to share my ideas, and given the opportunity to collaborate closely with professionals across Finance & Accounting. With mentors who supported me in taking ownership, experimenting with new approaches, and learning from every challenge, I strengthened not only my technical expertise but also my communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Looking back, this experience showed me that the greatest growth comes from being trusted with meaningful work and surrounded by people who genuinely invest in your development.

Sometimes, the biggest growth comes from being given the chance to figure things out for yourself. At Beam, I was trusted with real challenges, encouraged to explore new possibilities, and supported when things didn’t go as planned. I learned to take ownership, keep pushing forward, and turn challenges into something I could grow from.

UX/UI Design Intern : Growth That Exceeded My Expectations

Growing Faster Through Diverse Challenges

From the very first week, I was given work that carried real impact, decisions and designs that shaped the product experience for real users. I worked closely with professional designers who pushed every project toward a stronger outcome, while also working alongside my team lead and stakeholders to communicate ideas with clarity and confidence. Beyond design itself, my ten weeks moved across different parts of the process, from UX research to UX/UI design to UX writing, extending into collaboration with other teams across the company. Each shift taught me how these different pieces and perspectives come together to shape a cohesive product. It's undeniable that moving across so many areas quickly meant a steep learning curve, one that pushed me to grow faster than I expected.

Sharing Moments That Bring the Team Closer

What stayed with me most, beyond the projects themselves, was the people. The office culture at Beam is genuinely friendly, where everyone is willing to lend a hand, and support is never far away, whether from teammates or other departments. There was always something happening to unwind together, badminton sessions, running groups, and rock climbing, moments that brought Beamers closer. Looking back, this experience helped me grow tremendously, and inspired me to keep pushing myself further as a designer.

At Beam, being an intern isn’t about playing it safe - it’s about having the room to fail fast, get back up faster, and take real ownership of what you’re passionate about. You design alongside exceptionally skilled people who push your boundaries every single day, so if you show up ready to learn, your growth curve won't just rise - it will skyrocket.

Marketing Intern (Strategy & Initiatives, Growth Channels): Love at First Job

Finding My Internship “Soulmate” at Beam Basecamp

How many students can say their very first internship felt like a true soulmate? I’m lucky to be one of them. My journey with Beam started because I genuinely believed in their vision. From day one, my focus was pure execution. My team taught me an invaluable lesson is plan thoughtfully, act quickly, and iterate constantly. I didn’t just observe, I actually got to step out for actual field research to gather real customer insights. I poured this energy into a project I absolutely loved, the “Cashless Club” a community pushing Thailand toward a truly cashless society.

More Than a Typical Internship

At Beam, the work I did actually mattered and went live. What blew me away was being treated like an equal teammate, not just the intern. I was always invited to the table, and my ideas were genuinely heard. Surrounded by smart, proactive people, the startup culture made cross-functional collaboration seamless. Whether I was pitching new marketing initiatives or aligning strategies with other teams.

What truly made this experience unforgettable was my Marketing Lead. She set a completely new standard for a “dream lead”. Having a mentor so eager to teach and open to fresh ideas created a safe space that gave me the confidence to speak up, ask questions, and think outside the box. Now, as I step from an intern into a part-time role, I couldn’t be happier to keep building the future of payments for Thailand. It’s a massive challenge, but it’s exactly the kind of work that makes my heart race every time I dive in. Who wouldn’t love that?

“Okay fair warning. This internship is addictive and yes you might fall in love. I came for a few months. I'm still here now as a part-timer. Side effects include growing way too fast and speaking up in meetings. You'll smile at Slack messages and actually like Mondays. There's no cure.”
